Dangers of Platform Bathtub in Huntingdon, Pennsylvania

Not all that glitters is gold… This saying holds true for many situations in life. Almost everyone would enjoy a long soak in a warm bathtub, especially a jetted tub, but at what cost? Not only are these monetarily expensive, getting into and out of many of these tubs can be detrimental to your health. Here are a few pictures of tubs that Home Smart’s certified contractors installed.

This Jacuzzi style tub with tile platform in Huntingdon, Pennsylvania can pose many safety hazards, such as slippery surfaces and requires a high step to get into and out of the tub. This bathtub was right next to a shower stall but neither the tub nor the shower was providing a safe bathing experience.

The height of this bathtub platform requires homeowners to step over the wall or up onto the platform and down into the tub. If stepping up onto the tile platform and then down into the tub, slipping on the wet tiles is very likely. Also, if a person has issues with keeping themselves balanced, this provides nothing to use for stability while being safe. If stepping over the platform wall and into the tub, there is a risk of a person losing their balance as well as slipping on the inside of the tub.

Homeowners in Huntingdon, Pennsylvania worked with a safety consultant from Home Smart Industries to customize their new Safe Step Walk-In tub to meet their safety needs.

This tub provides anti-scald technology, a handheld shower sprayer and controls within reach while sitting on the heated seat and backrest. The tub has a less than four inch barrier to get into the tub and provides a spa like experience. There are ten massaging hydro therapy jets, microsooth air jets and color changing lights for chromotherapy. The floor and the seat are anti-slip and safety grab bars are installed inside the tub and strategically placed bars on the wall where needed most. Now these homeowners can enjoy a relaxing, spa-like bath while being safe!

Anti-Slip Walk-In Tub in Belle Vernon, PA

Anti-slip bath mats that stick to the floor of a bathtub normally don't look very pretty, with their suction cups and sometimes they don't even stay where they are needed. Anti-slip appliques now come in many different shapes, sizes and colors and while they look good, they are not very effective in keeping one from slipping on the wet bathtub floor. Now there is another option, anti-slip tape that can be applied in strips to give traction while bathing. So for people who tend to lose their balance while bathing, what is the best option?

This bathtub in Belle Vernon, Pennsylvania had a slippery surface when wet so flower shaped appliques were affixed to the floor of the tub. While this may have helped, the risk of slipping and falling was still high. Homeowners felt that was not the safest way for them be bathing. Homeowners in Belle Vernon, Pennsylvania worked with a safety consultant from Home Smart Industries to customize a walk-In tub that met their safety needs. This tub has Micro Soothe bubbles and a heated seat. Like all of our tubs, it has an anti-slip floor and seat so there is no need for appliques or bathmats! For added safety, safety grab bars are also strategically installed where each customer needs the support the most which drastically reduces slips and falls!

Replace a Large Shower Stall with a Walk-In Tub in Sellersville, PA

In Sellersville, Pennsylvania homeowners had a large, handicap accessible shower stall with safety grab bars installed horizontally on the walls, a wall mounted slide shower sprayer and a safety shower chair. If a person were bathing on their own while sitting in the shower chair, the water faucet, shower sprayer and toiletry items would all be out of reach. If when reaching for them the person became unsteady and needed support to keep from falling, the safety grab bars were also out of reach. The tile floor of the shower would also be dangerous as tile is slippery when wet. This shower would be very convenient if the person bathing was being assisted as there is much room, but independent bathing would be difficult and dangerous.

After consulting a professional from Home Smart Industries, a walk-In tub was installed in place of the large shower stall. This tub provides many safety features that the shower did not. This tub was customized with air bubbles and a heated seat and backrest, keeping you warm while bathing, which a shower would not. The handheld shower sprayer, water faucets and massaging jet controls are within reach while relaxing in the tub so there is no need to lean forward from a shower chair, risking falling. Our tubs come with anti-scald technology, so there is no worries of being burnt by hot water. The safety grab bars are now strategically placed to assist while moving in and out of the tub instead of just lining the inside walls. With the anti-slip floor, there is no need to use floor mats or worry about slippery tiles. Now bathing independently is safe again!
